Amsterdam
Airport Schiphol Takes Off With Netpresenter's Emergency Alert
Netpresenter,
May the 23th 2002, Amsterdam Airport.
Amsterdam
Airport Schiphol has greatly improved its ability to inform visitors
and employees in the event of a public emergency. Schiphol has
installed "Emergency Alert", a new computer programme
by Netpresenter. Netpresenter is a Dutch software development
company, worldwide leading in the field of internal communication
solutions.
Emergency
Alert is a computer programme that enables companies and organisations
to quickly and efficiently inform visitors and employees in the
event of a public emergency. News messages can be created in seconds
and presented directly on PC's and television screens within the
organisation's buildings and public areas.
For example, shopping malls can immediately inform their visitors
on how and when to evacuate the building, and local governments
can convey emergency information to their citizens by cutting
into television programmes and displaying messages.
Amsterdam
Airport Schiphol can now use all available screens, including
a big advertisement screen at the entrance of the terminal, to
inform its visitors in the event of an emergency. Schiphol's spokeswoman
Ms Snoerwang: "We use mergency Alert for example when a terminal
needs to be evacuated".

In the
last few years Schiphol Airport had to evacuate a terminal twice
because of fire. "It turned out to be particularly difficult
to communicate with people outside the terminal. This needed to
be improved", Snoerwang acknowledges.
"After
the events of September 11th, demand for swifter communication
solutions is booming", says Frank Hoen, CEO of Netpresenter.
"Government agencies and companies have realized that in
emergency situations an improved communication ability can save
lives." Hoen speaks from experience. In 1995 large parts
of the southern Netherlands suffered from a flooding disaster.
In one of the areas that were most affected, Hoen created and
managed a public communication service via the television cable,
which turned out to be very successful.
Besides Amsterdam
Airport Schiphol, the state of Connecticut has also shown serious
interest in acquiring Netpresenter's Emergency Alert.
